Shell Infestation of the Farmed Pacific Oyster Magallana gigas by the Endolith Bivalve Rocellaria dubia

چکیده
Oyster shells are substratum for different epibiontic and endobiontic organisms, including pests parasites. Rocellaria dubia is endolithic facultative tube-dwelling bivalve, boring in calcareous substrates, the of bivalves. In 2020, R. was found as Pacific oyster Magalana gigas, from an farm off Sacca di Goro lagoon (Emilia-Romagna region, Northern Adriatic Sea, Italy). The purpose this study to describe newly recorded association. Altogether, 136 specimens were 15 oysters, photographed under a stereoscope, their length measured. Heavily infested oysters hosted tens borers, which perforating whole thickness valves. flesh these heavily damaged, suggesting parasitic categorized into three age classes (0–1, 1–2, 2–3 years old). M. gigas/R. might be widespread association, overlooked due very scarce research on macrofauna associated with gigas. Considering negative effects endobiosis fitness, possible impacts aquaculture, further should conducted order elucidate distribution ecological characteristics

The sense of hearing in the Pacific oyster, Magallana gigas
There is an increasing concern that anthropogenic noise could have a significant impact on the marine environment, but there is still insufficient data for most invertebrates. What do they perceive? We investigated this question in oysters Magallana gigas (Crassostrea gigas) using pure tone exposures, accelerometer fixed on the oyster shell and hydrophone in the water column. Groups of 16 oyste...

The carbonic anhydrase (CA, EC 4.2.1.1) superfamily of metalloenzymes catalyzes the hydration of carbon dioxide to bicarbonate and protons. The catalytically active form of these enzymes incorporates a metal hydroxide derivative, the formation of which is the rate-determining step of catalytic reaction, being affected by the transfer of a proton from a metal-coordinated water molecule to the en...

Functional characterisation of phagocytes in the Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas
Invertebrates lack canonical adaptive immunity and mainly rely on innate immune system to fight against pathogens. The phagocytes, which could engulf and kill microbial pathogens, are likely to be of great importance and have to undertake significant roles in invertebrate immune defense. In the present study, flow cytometry combined with histological and lectin staining was employed to characte...
